The Finns or the Swiss or something do that right? I think they do it in order to register it as a commercial vehicle, therefore not tagged as a sports/exotic car.
A lot of the LeMons guys run without hatches, you can see how the car looks. I seriously don't know how they do it though. I drove with the hatch slightly up once and all the exhaust fumes come barreling in. Had to stop and re-organize the cargo.
