Change your trans fluid and drain the old stuff through a fine screen. This will tell you how serious the problem might be. My trans runs high temp "motorsport" fluid and 2nd gear is very stiff when cold. I just skip-shift from 1st to 3rd until the car is warm. After that 2nd shifts great.
