Replace my CAT on my S2 10 years ago with a second hand stock mid section from a non CAT car and am quite happy with this. Piece of mind you know that there is nothing to fail as far as performance goes, i.e. one less item to fail. However, saying that CAT are made quite solid and never had one fail on me on other cars that I have driven since. Sound wise the stock mid section sound the same as the CAT. I also changed the rear stock with an after market stainless muffler and that one is still intact after 10 years. Soundwise again not much different then stock. I did managed to gut the things out of my CAT and run it on my car for a while but did not like the sound. However, this had more to do with my engine having problems (2 valve spring broken, end eventually had a burned out valve to add to the damage). So It should sound better know (as I still have it) but can't be asked to try it out as I am happy with my current setup.
