About 30 years ago I bought a nylon strap wrench.
It's worked on everything with a spin on housing up to a 1200HP MAN diesel I helped install in a Bristol Bay fishing boat.

I've been buying the 10W-40 High Mileage Mobil 1 for mine. Some Wal-Mart's usually have it, the local shops won't order without a special order fee.
I have 119K in the engine and up here in the NWest we don't get your summer heat very often. I don't use any oil between 5000 mile changes.
