One winter when I was a kid the basement of our old farmhouse developed an infestation of mice. My next-oldest sister and I tag-teamed trapping them. We got a nickel per mouse; have forgotten how many we caught, likely 30-some.
There were lots of cats around but they were all outdoor ones (didn't know there were any other kind).
And of course we re-used the traps.
