I had these on my Boxster for a couple of years and they worked just fine. Don't understand why you were told they are uninstallable unless they are not for your model. If you pull the carpet pieces covering the back of the tail light (in the trunk) you'll see a bulb module that is held on by two clips that you pinch together and the bulb module will release and pull back from the tail light housing. It is the piece that has the wiring coming out of the back and once released you'll see all the bulbs (now is a good time to put fresh bulbs in the one's that will remain). Set it aside in the trunk and remove the four nuts holding the tail light housing onto the car (trunk side). The tail light housing can now be pulled off the car. If the new units don't have a gasket remove the gasket from the original lights and put it on the new ones. Slip the new housing on and tighten it down with the four nuts. Look at the tail light module and remove the bulbs that will be replaced by the LED plug ins and leave the other bulbs in (the one's that go in the holes in the new housing.) Once you've removed the correct bulbs and plugged the LED's in their sockets just push the bulb module back into the housing until it clicks back in place. You should now have LED break lights.
