It does seems to reduce overall string tension a bit though... which makes NO sense, because strings must be at a specific tension for a specific pitch...
I have the TP screwed to the deck also and have never encountered that problem- but I have tried top wrapping. I just had the low E jumping out of the saddle (break angle). My top wrapping lasted one unsuccessful night.

Ive seen an explaination for the string tension thing that did make some sense...involved suspension bridges......
