My wife is very upset about this. I am numb.

We have a shooting massacre in the US every few months. Everyone cries and gnashes their teeth for a couple of days, then nothing happens. No changes are made. At the end of the day, it is not unlike the constant river of people being killed by random crime, accidents, and diseases - just that today, 27 deaths were aggregated into one terrible event with a single perpetrator.

What changes can be made? There will be no additional gun control in the US, whether you agree or disagree with it. Mental health budgets are being cut, and the ability to find and treat these people is limited anyway. Schools will not be decentralized, patrolled with armed guards, or ringed with metal detectors, for financial reasons alone.

27 children were massacred today in Connecticutt. 27 more will be killed somewhere else, before too long. And 27 more after that.
