My first instict would be to not remove it. Do what ever work you are doing with it installed. If I had to remove it I'd grab it with a pair of vise grips, use some scrap aluminum to cushin the jaws so they don't scratch and dent the shaft. To break it loose I'd heat the base with a propane torch. This will expand the magnesium and loosen any locktite.
