it's an LS1 from a 2003 VY commodore. Piston slap was only an issue on the early VT motors (1999).
Sump is aftermarket and other than that there's no way of telling what else is modified. Check out similar stuff on ebay for what it's likely to be able to be sold for, but I don't think it'll recover your missing $3k. They are worth a lot less as a long motor without the ECU, loom, a/c, P/S pumps and alternator etc.
