It's likely your imagination, between Futuremark and Tom's Windows 7x64 benches higher than 8 on most things.
That's when you can benchmark it of course, a lot of graphic intensive items are simply failing. The joys of a new OS.
Some boot times are a bit better, but nothing most people will notice.
And again, most times it bombs out on the higher end stuff.
