There are people that used to hunt in Mexico with their own guns, he probably thought being honest and forthright would be the way to go. I have taken guns into Mexico but that was then, now I wouldn't even drive through Mexico. If I wanted to do it again I would probably just ship a car to Guatemala and drive down from there. I don't see any reason to be in Mexico, didn't even like it when I drove to Costa Rica, hitting the border with Guatemala was like night and day, a big relief.
