As far as achievement, that is up to the individual and the parents, no matter what the setting.

From what I know of the people I went to private middle school with and public highschool with, the real difference without parent interaction and caring is the make/model/year of the car they were screwing in, the quality of the pot they were smoking, and whether they could afford to do coke.
