You never know what drives someone Bat $hit Crazy, but there is another side bar story here. Suzy was really good. So good that I don’t think many on this board can understand how good she was and what it took to maintain that level for 9-10 years.
And during the time she should have been at her best, another American woman made a highly acclaimed comeback and Suzy was never able to beat her when it counted. Now what was unusual about this is the other woman (Regina Jacobs) was 5-6 years older than Suzy and it made no sense that she was running as well as she was.
Well, it turned out that Jacobs was one of the big Balco dopers. A “clean Suzy” was no match for a PED enhanced and talented but much older runner.
Draw your own conclusions, but imagine her frustration during the ‘90’s and then again 10 years later to learn that she was competing against a major league cheater and the cards were stacked against you. I suspect that would drive most people a little crazy, but YMMV.
