Here in San Diego County, for $65 I can obtain a mm card in 30 min. or less, immediately make a phone call to any of a number of on-line pharmacies who will take my VISA card no. over the phone and deliver what I order to my house in an unmarked car in 2 hours or less, verify that I have the required mm card, turn the goods over to me and be on their way. This has been the case here for at least the last 5 or so years.
A couple years ago the young CFP/broker who worked with my old broker at Morgan Stanley in Orange County, CA, left for...greener pastures

...to be a major grower somewhere in the Berkely, CA area - all legal by CA law and his group of investors has been left alone by the Feds so far.
About a year and a half ago, the city of San Diego made a big stink that they were calling in the Feds to rid their, verrry conservative, city of mm pharmacies. All that transpired was that those businesses that were breaking local zoning laws, being too close to schools, etc. had to close or relocate. I don't believe the Feds ever got involved and mm pharmacies continue to thrive county wide, many of them foregoing brick and mortar stores and doing all their business over the phone as described above.
