Actually, it's more so the result of
high velocity subway platforms. I've ridden on many through trains and some platforms flashed by at such insane speeds that they actually appeared to the observer on the train to be physically shorter than to the observer on the platform, to whom the train appeared shorter (I know, go figure
), although to be fare (yes, I paid mine), Momma always declares that the trains I am traveling on pass by at such insane speeds that I can't throw her from the train my hat, lest it decapitate anyone in its trajectory.
