Navy pilots are probably the best at formation flying. Trying to land on a plane on a moving runway in bad weather really builds the ability to keep a plane steady relative to another object. A cool book to read would be Feet Wet if you guys haven't. Its written by a pilot that started at the beginning of jet carrier aviation, and he takes you through his very eventful career. Early jet aviation didn't have reliability down, and before ejection seats, there were a lot of losses. The Blue Angels has lost twenty eight pilots. They fly a very difficult game, and it can take its toll.
