Hi Porschetub
The car was sold to me in 2000 as "rust free" having been painted in 1996 - there were photos and receipts. I was new to the cars and accepted on face value that I had a rust free car

I've since learnt!
In 2002 I decided to begin a refurb of the interior and drive train. During this time I found surface rust on the back shelf and on the interior floor. It was clear the car had experienced a rear window seal failure and been regularly wet. I cleaned up the external rust and sealed the metal (and replaced the window seals) but knew there would be internal rust. In 2008 I found that rust was perforating the lower panels in the rear wheelhouse and floor/sills.
I began planning for a "3 month restoration" for 2010... I figured on welding in some patches and maybe replace some tricky panels. And as you can see the '2x3' rule must always be applied. Twice as much as you budget and three times the time

The truth is that I could have finished the job much earlier but there were many parts of the car I wanted to improve on and knew that I wouldn't be happy skimping - so I had to save. The interior was particularly important to me as that is where I actually want to spend time
I am working towards the Australian Rennsport Reunion in Sydney in May. I won't bust a gut to finish in time though. I
will have the car back out on the road this year!
Thanks for following
