I'm not a guru... I even post stupid sounding questions often... but... two things come to mind... 1) the sunroof motor 2) the switch... I'm not sure if either of these things would give no sound but they would stop the roof from lifting...
My 944 n/a had the sunroof open on its own one cold fall day. Went down after it thawed and never happened again thank god.
