Wow! What a paranoid comment. I lived in Jakarta for three years, travelled all over the Indonesian archipelago and always felt perfectly safe - except for the various dodgy inter-island flights.
Nice people. Even Jakarta is a hidden treasure if you have an inside track and get to know some locals. Great history. Great artistic traditions. Unbelieveably beautiful islands. IMO Indonesia is the most complex and interesting country in SEAsia.
