I work with a guy, actually he's one of our IATSE 44 local reps. Was a propmaster and used to desert race with McQueen, Malcom Smith, etc. Took a tumble back in the late 80's and is now a parapalegic, confined to a wheelchair, has the van with the lift, the whole nine.
He volunteers with Oxnard PD driving around the shopping centers, parks and other places and wears a vest and has his ticket book. He tells me some wild stories about what a-holes people can be when he writes them up. I mean, here's a guy, in a wheelchair citing you for illegal handicap parking and you're going to get pissed? Tickets are $375 and he snaps a photo for "evidence". And the tickets are valid for both public AND private property.
His only reimbursement is knowing he is keeping the spaces clear for the people who need them and he gets a fuel allowance which he saves up till mid December and buys $25 Visa gift cards that he hands out to random families at Big Lots and Goodwill for their Christmas shopping. I think we need more people like Ron H.
