I have a 98 boxster that I purchased last April. New nothing about Porsches, and bought my car from someone who had no knowledge or history of the car. It has been areal adventure and learning experience. One of the things I had discovered was that my adjustable steering didn't adjust. I actually wondered if it hadn't been changed to a non-adjustable do to a possible collision repair or theft...didn't know.
I recently came across a posting that addressed this same issue. The reply to the posting was to work at it. The telescopic feature may not have been used for some time which may have caused it to stiffen up. Sure enough, I went back to it, and with some persuasion was able to free it up. I would guess you may be able to do the same. Unfortunately, there is very little travel in the column, and I find this feature to be somewhat worthless.
By the way, love this car!
