Do you have a very small house? It takes three cassettes to cover my cabin, not exactly cheap either. I've also lost the defroster unit twice now in five years, these are Fujitsu.
I'll probably ditch the entire system when we get a public gas line next summer. I can't find a reason for keeping them after that, power consumption is just to high. The best I can get is about 89 deg out of the system on optimal days, but a gas furnace does 130+, so we will as I said likely be ripping it out. ymmv.
