I have a flat roof and looked into PV solar panels. They will need to cut thru the roof and tie it into the support structure (mine is beams). They told me it would not show from the inside, but it is not very cost effective to so until I need a new roof. By then, we should have some
much improved PV panels.
You can likely get a guy over to check it out and estimate it for free - I did.
Major costs are:
1. panels - by far the most $$
2. supports for panels (higher for a flat roof as they need to angle the panels towards the sun)
3. charge controllers, new reversible meter & tie-in to elec. system
4. labor
Another benefit is that it would shade my roof pretty well in summer, which can get hot here.
