After retiring the 911 from the 1/4 mile and 1-mile races, she has been sitting in the garage all dress up and with no place to go. I haven't driven the car for about 4-5 months. On Sunday, I found out that the local track was having a " Street Safe Race Day" the race was at a 1/4 mile track.
The way that they are running this program is that the car has to be 100% street legal ( I know that the street legal term is just another topic, lol) At this even you have the opportunity to run from a dead stop for the 1/4 mile or you can do "Rolling Races" from 25 mph to 60 mph.
Once you have the car "Tech" you simply go to the "staging lanes" and any car that shows up, you try to set a race, weather is from dead start or rolling.
Due to the inconsistency of me as a driver from the hole and with aims to minimize any failures, I decided to take the 1-hour drive trip and try my luck doing some "Rolling Races."
I wanted to set up some races from 60mph rolls since my car have a very good response in 3er gear, unfortunately I was not able to find anyone willing to race me from that mph ,so I settled for whatever mph the other car wanted.
I had 3 races from 50mph rolls and won all 3........... Then as they day was heating up the event organizers approached me and asked me if I was willing to race a Mitty Nissan GTR Skyline TT, from the information that I gathered the car runs low 10s in the 1/4 mile, is 4 WD and is TT so I suspect that the HP has to be in the 1,000 or more like all other newer GTR'S
At first the guy refused to go from anything higher than 25mph. Finally we settled for 50mph roll.
On the first race I felt that the GTR "Jumped Me" right before the start so I take that loss even that he acknowledged that he jumped me.
On the second race I was not going to allow this GTR to "jump me" so to the lanes we went and below is the video of the race and for you to decide who
WON
True Facts
* From inside the cabin it seems to me that the 911 won........ you be the judge.
* The camera was mounted on the rear window of the 911.
* The 911 was running on 93 pump was.
* The 911 was racing with a broken Ring and Pinion, which was later discovered
* If you watch real real close you will see the car pulling to the left at one point, maybe due to the excessive ring and pinion ? or simply spinning the wheels or ?
* My remote switch for the boost controller had a dead battery so I was switching manually which was a real pain.
* The boost was st at 17psi lo and 32 psi high.
* The 911 speedometer doesn't work, so I have no idea of the MPH.
* Clearly you can hear the ring and pinion noise
After the race was over I did race one more car and by then the noise out of the ring and pinion was very loud, I was lucky enough to make the 1 hour trip back, and now I'm embarking into the task to remove the engine and repair as needed.
Time to come out from the Dark side and do what I do best , be a HP JUnkie
