I hear the ac system in the early 944, was separate, and thus could be completely removed. What can you do a late model?

Having a completely discharged R12 system, and living in Western Canada where the climate is pretty mild, I want to get rid of the clutter.

IS removing the AC lines from the firewall forward all I can do? And I guess cap the holes. Hmmm.... those lines look to be a pain to get out, but at least this will make access to the clutch master cylinder easier.
