A December 1969 Road & Track "Technical Analysis" article about the 914 talks about "Porsche engineers Bott and Piech". I wonder if that's Ferdinand Piech who, up until fairly recently, was the head of VW. Maybe somebody could hack VW's web site and get Piech's email address and then we could ask him.
