Had a talk with my wife about this exact topic yesterday after a weekend at her parent's house. They live in central KS on 40 acres, and her dad and brother are big-time hunters. There are ALWAYS shotguns sitting out. My super-curious 2 year old pointed out one of "papa's gun" leaning by the garage door where he could easily access it. I checked it to find a shell chambered and the safety off. All that it would take is my little guy to go pull the trigger.........not good. My 8 year old has a .22 and I have drilled gun safety into his head, but the 2 year old doesn't know any better. Living like that might be fine for them, but when my kids are around it's not going to cut it.
