My mother had her's done at 82. She had fallen and broken the hip.
She was in bad health and didn't have a lot of mobility even before the fall. Before her surgery my attitude was that she's sick from multiple ailments, doesn't walk much anyway, what the heck does she need an expensive hip for? Turns out the major advantage of the hip replacement was that it relieved a lot of her pain even though she didn't use it to walk on much. Not having that pain for the last two years of her life made it worth it.
