I got one on my 928 Euro. That plate and the one on door jamb that the stupid painting place decided to sand down got my car inspected by the CHP here in California. As much problems Gray market Euros are here in California, I am surprised someone (Calif Resident) is actually going to buy one "from" out of California knowing that VIN plate is missing. Your 1980 911 "will" get inspected once he tries to register it here. There is no "suggestion" about that VIN plate. You need to be up front that this may be a huge issue for him.
