Enjoying ultra light fishing for bass in small ponds, etc. I really like a 6' 2 piece light or ultralight rod with a spinning reel loaded with 4lb test line (or equiv diameter if using a superline). 1/8oz or smaller baits, 4" worms, etc.
That said, if legal to use and you aren't a purist, I'd look at a nice ultralight rig that could do general "this is my hiking fishing rig" duty.
Otherwise I'd pick up a cheap flyrod kit with a 6 or 7wt rod/line setup.
You will learn many new swear words if you've never done fly fishing before.
