Sounds like a lifter to me...
On a happier note, you might try a bottle of "44K" by BG. You can get it at AutoZone/Checker I think. I know Texaco oil service stations have it. It just might clean things up for you. They also make an awewome oil treatment.
I do not believe in "mechanic in a bottle" but BG is well respected and makes very good stuff. Hopefully this is the "fix" you need!
