The 944 door latch and striker bolt are both metal and when closing the door it makes that metal on metal sound that i don't particularly like. The 944 door has that nice thump sound when closing but the metallic sound from the latch kinda ruins it.
Newer cars have both the latch and striker coated in hard plastic to eliminate the metallic sound.
I tried to do something similar to the 944 striker bolt; i grounded it down to about 8.5mm and fitted a 3mm wall rubber hose over it ,silicone probably would have been better but i didn't have any on hand. The rubber will probably wear in a few years but is easily replaceable.
