When I were a young Boy Sprout our sprout master would make us eat butter sammaches that had sulfur powder mixed into the butter before leaving on a camping trip. Said it kept them skeeters from bittin'. As I recollect, it tasted nasty, but it worked.

When in college we decided that beer did the same thing. However, you had to keep a constant intake going with the beer to keep up the repellent effect. Or at least keep up so you didn't care if ya got bit.
