For simple walk go up to Griffith Park and take a walk to the top of Mt Hollywood. All of LA and some of the valley can be seen from there. it is the highest peak in the city of LA. Hike up the face of Mt. Wilson from Sierra Marde. Our local mountains has a bunch of really trails that will allow you to get deep into the forest. THere's Brown Mountain trail along JPL. There are ton of stuff and some of them are tough. I used to be a Geology major at one time back in college, so I walked a bunch of the San Gabriel mountains.
