Porsche changed from aluminum to magnesium case midyear 68 so it's probably accurate.
Get the serial# off the vertical fan brace on the right side and we can tell you what type of motor it is.
The 70 with the running motor sounds good as well, 2.2 originally maybe use that in the 75 which was a 2.7 originally and sell the 68 to pay for your restoration. Sounds all good if he has clear titles. Post some pictures if you can, good luck.
