The Brits know a little something about tea. Try "PG Tips" (a black tea made only from the bud and top two leaves from the bush, hence "tips").
I always have some on hand, and running out is not an option. Usually buy more when I open my penultimate box of 80 (250g, or 8.8 oz) - which I get for $5 at a warehouse store around here.
CostPlus World Market carry it for $9 (used to be cheaper). Any of the Kroger (QFC, Fred Meyer) or Safeway's/Vons stores stock it, usually in the 40's. Amazon have it too, all sizes up to the 240 box.
It wouldn't be very hard to snip the little bags open if you really want loose leaf. If it has to be green, you're on your own
