I just saw this post and thought I would reply. The 2 after the 8 means it was exported to the USA/Japan. If it were a 1, it would mean Europe/ROW (rest of world).

I have serial number 9288200072 and signed up for Autocheck to get a vehicle history report for my car. When I was signed up, I also queried the database for all serial numbers between 00001 and 00080 just to see what information was available. Autocheck cut me off after the 00080 as I had run up against the maximum numbers I could query.

There were no records for 9288200030 - I found records for #28, #29 and #35,#36 but nothing in between. The oldest information in any of the records I found was 1987, so I assume that was around the time they started getting automated information. I was hoping I could send you the autocheck for your car, but there wasn't one when I queried that number.
