Anyhow, I like the 700. The trigger needs tuning to my taste, but as you can see toward the last pages of the thread linked below, the trigger isn't so bad that a guy who's never shot a bolt action to 100 yds can get a decent grouping.
Since I bought the rifle, I've added a Choate tactical stock that free floats the barrel. I had the stock machined for AI drop mags. It's one hell of a rifle and I will probably never get rid of it. It's an all purpose rifle to me...

drop timney trigger into it and yer golden. or have gunsmith tune trigger and CHECK SAFETY!
tubbs mfgs a damn nice firing pin with chrome silicone spring for them. wayyy less lock time than out of the box oem.
when i had my M40A-1 built for me in the 80's by dick davies @ mcmillian, they gave me the option of the standard floorplate or the badger ordnance tow yer 5 ton truck mega trigger guard and box magwell. i went the cheap route and regretted it from the day i received it.
so when the rem "safety" issue came up, i decided when i took it in to arrington accuracy here(he works with mcmillian), i would do the badger magwell also.
its a PITA with gloves on opening hinged floor plate and putting rounds in or removing them. thats my only bee-attch about it.
installing badger magwell SOLVES EVERYTHING! all rds in a mag, rounds are safe from dropping, spare mag in pocket for quick reloads. 5rd or 10rd mag from accuracy intl at brownells or midwayusa.
dropped elk and deer with mine. there is NO difference btwn POINT OF AIM AND POINT OF IMPACT! there is NO 1/2" MOA crap.....................ITS "X" EVERY STINKING TIME! as long as i do my part breathing, keeping barrel steady, correct trigger pull and let off. yes wind/rain/snow/humidity/heat/ammo lot will affect final outcome of POI.
the other model to look for is the heavy barrel "40-X" and the heavy barrel rem 700 VARMINT in .308. ditch the crap wood stock and grab a mcmillian stock and you have the basis for an incredible rifle.
the older ILLION,NEW YORK mfg. models are what ya look for.
