The same dog used to comment on my mother's biscuit making skills by taking one from her hand, dropping it to the floor to hear it thud, then picking it up later. Usually he buried it.

Our cats did that one year. They dragged the turkey carcas off the counter and then down to their food area, I guess to make it "legal".
