I would pass on the HVLP and go the rental airless route. With proper tip selection and using the lowest pressure which still achieves a nice spray pattern, you can vastly outperform any HVLP made. HVLP's use very low pressure so they struggle with thicker waterbased paints.
Try a smaller airless with a .211 tip and you will love the result. While overspray is a factor, HVLP's produce it as well.
