I doubt that, with the incredible popularity of the show comes a solid budget. I think it's an interesting parallel plot, facing not only the undead but also the living as well. Interesting, in that I suspect society would quickly unravel similar to the show. Some of the previews elude to them leaving the prison "we can't say here", so I suspect they will be back on the road at some point.
Personally I would like more clarity on the entire zombie thing. Everyone on the show just seems to accept that zombies are everywhere, but there's really no conversation or investigation on the topic. There were a few flashbacks early in the show, but there wasn't much to illustrate how or why it happened. I thought they would use the CDC episodes to tell the story, but to no avail.
