I had never seen it before but last Thursday the business traveler in the window (I was in the aisle seat) popped his shoes off as soon as he sat down. I couldn't smell anything but that's not the point. You aren't in your living room, keep your shoes on.

I think the reason is that peoples' feet swell in a pressurized cabin. They should bring light slippers(not too light!
) to retain foot odors.
