I had a catastrophic engine block failure at 50000 miles. Could have been D-chunk or case porosity which are known issues for early 996 (mine was a very early 2000 model). It was definately not an IMS failure. The "extended warranty" company moved offshore and would not cover the claim.
That should have been enough to sour me on a 911 as a daily driver. Six years later now I am willing to take the plunge.
