That some people will cheat to win - shouldn't be a surprise to us, and shouldn't diminish our appreciation of the others.

That some sports were so poorly governed, that the top finisher for a decade cheated, his whole team cheated, the next five or ten finishers cheated, maybe half of the peloton would have cheated if they'd had the means or access, and all this went on under the firmly pinched nose of the sport's governing body, and had to be unearthed by outsiders e.g. French police (Festina), USADA (Armstrong), while the UCI actually gave doping cyclists briefings on how the testing - programs would be conducted - that *should* be a surprise to us.

One at a time, each sport should be torn down and rebuilt, from a doping perspective. I don't need absolute certainty that an event is dope-free, a very high probability is enough. That is as good or better than you get on anything in life.
