Not wanting to pry into personal matters. But I am wondering about the costs of racing at this level. Do you do many races a season? Travel to distant races?
How much does beer cost for a week end :-) etc.
No worries, happy to share and can take this off line as well. A FV will cost you $6k to $12k for a race ready car. Formula Ford add $5k to $10k and on up from there. In the production car world cost is all over the place. You can probably pick up a well sorted MGB for example in the $20's. One of my buddies is worth a ton of $'s (you'd never know it until you see his race cars) He races everything from a FV to a FF and has a Lotus 23 he campaigns and many others he doesn't including a beautiful Porsche collection. His poor buddies, me included, are harping on him to do Monterey with the Lotus so we can go and crew.

The initial buy in is the least of your worries. Wear items, interval between and cost of engine/trans refresh, etc. need to be factored in. A FV driver can get a season out of a set of tires or even more. 3-4 out of a motor and may never open up a trans in his/her career.

Entry fees generally are $300 to $500 per weekend. Factor in fuel, travel costs, etc. and a weekend can run $750 and up.

We generally have 8 or so "points" race weekends on our club schedule in the PNW from Portland to Seattle to Spokane and up in to BC. The guys/gals with more money and time can stretch their season and travel to other vintage club events in CA or anywhere really. Several of our club members have cars and the means to participate in Monterey and other high end events both in the US and abroad.

I don't have a ton of $ compared to many in our club and should be saving more than I do but this is too much fun and I'll do it as long as I can. The group is tight knit, drops everything to help each other out and many have become some of my best friends.
