While on the topic of great sailing stories. This book by Bernard Moitessier "The Long Way" Is a fun story about his sail 1 and 2/3 times around the world solo, non stop on his boat Joshua (named in Honor of Slocum). It started as a race around the world in 1968 then turned into his quest for a worthwhile landfall after a long sail. Amazing descriptions of sailing in the roaring 40s and furious 50s in the southern ocean.
