"Knock down" power is a myth. Tissue destruction is what we are after - the more the merrier. Under ideal conditions, hollow points do offer that in spades. In SoCal, you are more likely to encounter those "ideal conditions" than not, where up here in the Pacific North "Wet", we are far less likely. These "ideal conditions" would be the perp in just a shirt, with no heavy coat or jacket for the hollow point to "splat" up against. We might have to shoot through that stuff; hollow points have a pretty good track record of failure to do that, so I stick with what has always worked for me. My hard cast bullets have always penetrated the "overcoat" on game animals, where hollow points didn't do so good.
