I don't know the answer to this, but from the work I do with the MTA (that's who runs the busses here in LA), I don't think much would come out of any complaint. The MTA is government bureaucracy defined.
However, I have heard from an MTA driver that accidents where the bus rearends another vehicle is considered differently than other accident scenarios, from the perspective of culpability of the driver.
So if you're gonna mix it up with a bus, just make sure they hit your from behind.
