Guilty as charged! Have to add that due to a busy schedule (mostly commuting) and getting older (body, not heart or mind!) I couldn't do one from the ground up anymore as some of my previous projects - so there are a few of us that will purchase highly modified as a baseline and do some of the easier stuff ourselves. Let's face it, big horsepower, mid-engine, lightweight cars are the way to go, and having one that turns heads is an added benefit. I can't tell you how many times people have stopped and asked 'what kind of car is that?' followed by the usual ahs and oohs. Wow, are 914's really that old?
Sure wish I had time to build and tinker with cars like I used to... maybe at retirement!
Anytime e(vil)Bay is mentioned - we all have to realize it truly is the buyer matching up with the seller. Some days the person with the expendable money is looking for something special, and that same day someone might be selling it on eBay. It's not about price and value, it's about desire and opportunity (for these specialty items).
